Why We Made The Score Free To Try

Many composers have a folder full of unused libraries, purchases that felt necessary at the time but ended up gathering dust because the workflow just didn’t fit their style.

You can’t figure that out from a feature list; you only know by actually trying it. But there’s an inherent problem: you can’t demo most libraries. That’s an architectural problem; it’s not because we don’t want you to.

That’s one reason we created our Elements series: to give you a chance to experience our incredible instruments for free, without making it so limited that it feels pointless.

And now our latest, THE SCORE ELEMENTS, is another great part of the Elements collection. It’s a free cinematic scoring plugin that uses the same Story-based engine as THE SCORE ESSENTIALS and THE SCORE.

The Barrier Is Rarely Your Idea

When you start scoring a scene, the first challenge is often technical, not musical. You wonder which instrument creates tension without sounding generic, or which patch truly matches the mood. Sometimes, you dig through several libraries before you find something close to what you imagined. By then, the original idea may have faded.

We designed the Story system to solve this problem.

A Story is more than a patch; it’s a complete, animated arrangement for a specific genre or mood. When you load a Story, you’re already in music that fits your scene. THE SCORE ELEMENTS includes 13 Stories for major cinematic genres, plus 2 playable Ensembles so you can build your own from scratch.

Another Powerful Free Tool

THE SCORE ELEMENTS isn’t our first free product. LUX ORCHESTRAL STRINGS, THE ORCHESTRA, ELYSION, and THE PULSE already offer free Elements versions. THE SCORE ELEMENTS has always been in our plans, and the team has now completed the work.

Everything starts with a spark of an idea, and people work in different ways. They craft the composition until the music in their head comes through their speakers, and THE SCORE ELEMENTS gets you there faster.

THE SCORE is as much about the story as the sounds. You’re not just judging sound quality; you’re seeing if an arrangement brings your motif to life as you envisaged it. You can only figure that out by trying it yourself.

Tilman Sillescu, co-founder of Sonuscore and Lead Composer at Dynamedion, has described the thinking behind the Story system this way:

“It’s not about being less of a composer. It’s about getting to the heart of the idea faster. We want the technology in the background so the composer can stay focused on the music.”

Offering a free way in takes that idea even further. If technology is supposed to stay in the background, then cost shouldn’t get in your way either.

What You’re Actually Getting

You might think a free product is just a limited teaser with a few patches, but THE SCORE ELEMENTS is different. Its 13 Stories use a curated set of over 40 orchestral and cinematic instruments, including strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, synths, guitars, keys, choir, and world instruments. This variety helps each genre sound unique, not just like a slight variation of the same sounds.

Each Story includes all two keyswitch variations, so you’re not stuck with just one arrangement. The mod wheel controls dynamics in real time, letting you move from quiet to powerful in one motion. The Engine is fully playable and editable, so you can take a Story as a starting point and make it truly your own.

Part Of The Score Family

THE SCORE ELEMENTS uses the same Engine and Story structure as THE SCORE ESSENTIALS and the full version of THE SCORE. This is intentional. Everything you learn here will still be useful if you later upgrade to features like the Instrument Browser, single instrument NKIs, MIDI export, User Presets, or Chord Studio. You won’t have to start over—you’ll just add new tools to a workflow you already know.

THE SCORE ESSENTIALS ($US 99.00) and the full THE SCORE ($US 399.00) are both there when you’re ready for them. THE SCORE ELEMENTS isn’t trying to get you there quickly with nag screens or limited demos.

THE SCORE ELEMENTS runs in the free Kontakt Player, so there’s genuinely nothing else to buy before you can start.
