When we released THE PULSE, it was built around a simple idea: help composers move faster from instinct to structure, without getting lost in technical complexity.

THE PULSE was never meant to be just another electronic instrument. It’s a production engine designed to generate movement, tension and rhythmic identity in modern scores, while staying out of the way when ideas need to flow.

As more composers began using THE PULSE in real-world projects for film, TV and games, we listened closely to how it was being used and where people wanted to push it next.

What we heard wasn’t a request for more sounds.
It was a request for more focus.

That insight led directly to our first two THE PULSE Expansion Packs: MOTION TEXTURES and DARK MACHINA.

Why Preset Expansions?

The idea of creating expansions for THE PULSE had been discussed early on, but it only made sense once the foundation was right.

“We always liked the idea of making expansions,” says creative lead Jonas Schüsselin, “but we only had the technical base to manage this properly in the last few months.”

Rather than expanding the sound library, we chose to expand the thinking behind the presets.

“THE PULSE already has a very powerful engine,” Jonas explains. “These expansions are about unlocking more of that potential and giving users very specific creative directions to work from.”

Each expansion contains 20 presets. They are deliberately small, highly focused additions designed to solve real compositional needs, not inflate feature lists.

MOTION TEXTURES

Rhythmic Undercurrents For Modern Cinematic Scoring

MOTION TEXTURES was created for moments where music needs to apply pressure without announcing itself. Scenes where the score must support unease, suspicion or threat while leaving space for dialogue and picture.

“We noticed that composers were asking for more minimal pulses,” Jonas says. “Presets that are easier to use as underscore, especially for crime, thriller and investigative work.”

These presets are built around controlled movement. They evolve slowly, repeat with intent, and avoid resolution.

“They’re not drones,” Jonas explains, “but they behave a bit like drones with purpose. There’s always motion, but it’s designed to keep the listener unsettled rather than comfortable.”

MOTION TEXTURES is designed for crime drama, political tension, mystery and atmospheric sci fi. It’s about sustaining intensity and keeping the narrative on edge without adding unnecessary complexity.

DARK MACHINA

Industrial, Complex, Pressure-Driven Rhythmic Design

DARK MACHINA explores the other end of the spectrum. These presets are about momentum, complexity and rhythmic intensity.

“This pack is much more sound-driven and experimental,” Jonas says. “You get complex grooves with many layers, and often very little harmonic content.”

Rather than traditional beats, DARK MACHINA treats rhythm as texture. Percussive layers interlock, patterns shift, and grooves feel engineered rather than performed.

“Rhythmic texture really describes it well,” Jonas adds. “Even when the sounds themselves are minimal, the groove is intense. You can’t always tell how it’s built, and that’s intentional.”

The pack draws inspiration from industrial scoring, modern thrillers and intelligent electronic music. It’s designed for composers working on darker, more experimental material where rhythm carries the weight of the scene.
